Cheat sheet
Value Levers
Player × Rookie × Scarcity × Condition
| Lever | Ask | Look for | Trap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Player | Who, and where is their career headed? | Stars, HOF trajectory, hot rookies | Hype fades; a rookie's value rides on their future |
| Rookie | Is it their first licensed base card from the rookie season? | RC logo, base set, rookie year | Strictly, inserts and parallels aren't RCs |
| Scarcity | How many exist? | Serial # (07/25), color parallels, SP/SSP, auto, patch, 1/1 | Shiny ≠ rare: unnumbered refractors and Silver Prizms can run into the thousands |
| Condition | How close to perfect? | Centering, corners, edges, surface; PSA 1–10 | A PSA 8 and a PSA 10 of the same card are different markets |
Ten-second read
Front (player, RC logo) → Finish (parallel?) → Back (serial #?) → Edges and corners (condition).
